Appliance energy comparison
Compare annual labelled energy consumption and simple extra-cost payback.
Quantity / scenario planning · Reviewed 7 October 2026Your inputs
Check all starting values against your project and product. Enter your own prices; keep costs on the same GST basis.
How to prepare your inputs
Read electrical input power or annual energy use from the appliance label. Enter tariffs from your bill and forecasts from your installer.
How this calculation works
Annual saving = (option A kWh − option B kWh) × tariff. Simple payback = extra purchase cost ÷ positive annual saving.
458 versus 300 kWh/year at $0.30 saves $47.40/year. A $200 premium takes about 4.22 years to recover.
Assumptions & exclusions
Compare similar appliances and equivalent label testing conditions. Negative savings mean B costs more to run. Payback excludes finance, tariff changes, maintenance and lifespan.
Your next step
Compare like-for-like energy assumptions and use a licensed installer for electrical or solar system decisions.

What if my shape or product is different?
Use dimensions and product data that match the stated method. For complex work, calculate separate sections or obtain a project-specific take-off. Do not apply simple geometry to structural or compliance decisions.
Why are quantities rounded up?
Whole bags, packs, sheets or cartridges round up to purchasable units. Decimal area or volume results are planning figures; confirm order increments with the supplier.
Are my entries saved?
No. Entries remain in the current browser page and clear on reload. Printing can save your results and inputs as a PDF on your device.
