Your inputs

MEASURE FIRST

How to prepare your inputs

Use actual section dimensions and supplier density. Nominal dimensions may differ from finished sections.

How this calculation works

Inner diameter = outer diameter − 2 × wall thickness. Metal area = π × (outer² − inner²) ÷ 4. Convert mm² to m² then multiply length and density.

Worked example

50 mm outside diameter and 3 mm wall give a 44 mm bore and approximately 3.4773 kg/m at 7,850 kg/m³.

Assumptions & exclusions

Nominal constant thickness, no weld or coatings. No structural, pressure or corrosion assessment. Supplier section properties take precedence.

Your next step

Confirm section properties, cutting schedule, coatings and structural requirements with the fabricator.

What if my shape or product is different?

Use dimensions and product data that match the stated method. For complex work, calculate separate sections or obtain a project-specific take-off. Do not apply simple geometry to structural or compliance decisions.

Why are quantities rounded up?

Whole bags, packs, sheets or cartridges round up to purchasable units. Decimal area or volume results are planning figures; confirm order increments with the supplier.

Are my entries saved?

No. Entries remain in the current browser page and clear on reload. Printing can save your results and inputs as a PDF on your device.
